Today, June 16th, is the internationally recognized holiday of Bloomsday, a day to celebrate the life and times of the writer James Joyce. The name comes from the protagonist of the (very, very, very long) novel Ulysses, Leopold Bloom and the fact that June 16 was the day of the first outing between Joyce and his wife-to-be Nora Banacle. Barnacle, believe it or not, was not a character in SpongeBob SquarePants. Which is something that shocked me the first time that I heard it. According to Wikipedia, the day is celebrated with pub crawls, readings of Ulysses and dress in Edwardian costumes. Sometimes people retrace the steps of the book throughout the town of Dublin.
It is celebrated here, at cofabg, through confusing posts that all have to do with ‘Bloom’ing, but no one understanding anything.
It’s what we do.
